Mathematics
At Carden Conejo, mathematics begins as early as preschool, where children are introduced to
foundational concepts step by step, ensuring mastery before moving forward. This intentional,
sequential approach develops both accuracy and confidence, allowing students to see math as a
language they can understand and apply, rather than a set of rules to memorize.
Our program blends traditional math foundations4such as arithmetic facts, computation, and
problem-solving drills4with the internationally acclaimed Singapore Math method. Singapore
Math is recognized worldwide for cultivating deep mathematical understanding. Instead of focusing
only on procedures, students explore concepts through hands-on activities, visual models, and realworld applications that bring numbers to life. Children work with manipulatives, diagrams, and bar
models to visualize and break down problems, moving from concrete understanding to pictorial
representation and, finally, abstract reasoning. This concrete3pictorial3abstract progression
ensures that students not only know how to solve problems, but also understand why their solutions
work.
Through guided practice and independent exploration, students develop true number sense, logical
reasoning, and analytical thinking skills. By mastering these tools in the early grades, children build
a strong foundation for advanced math, setting them up for success in middle school, high school,
and beyond. The result is students who approach math with curiosity, confidence, and the ability to
tackle even the most complex challenges. Parents often notice their children not only excelling in
mathematics but also enjoying the process4a hallmark of the Carden approach.
