Core Ethical Principles
At Carden Conejo School, we believe education extends far beyond academic excellence. Our mission is to
cultivate students of strong character — individuals who are respectful, principled, compassionate, and
prepared to contribute meaningfully to their communities and to the greater good of society. Character is
formed through daily choices. The Carden Conejo Code of Ethics outlines the values and behaviors that guide
our interactions, our decision-making, and our growth — both within and beyond our campus. Our Core
Ethical Principles are:
Respect: Students treat all members of the school community — peers, teachers, staff, families, and visitors
— with courtesy and dignity. Respect includes listening attentively, honoring differences in background and
belief, valuing diverse perspectives, and caring for school property and shared spaces. Respect also extends
to digital communication and off-campus conduct.
Kindness and Compassion: Students are expected to act with empathy, generosity, and consideration for
others. They practice inclusion, offer support when needed, and strive to make others feel valued and
welcome. The Golden Rule — treating others as one wishes to be treated — is central to our community
culture.
Integrity: Integrity means choosing honesty and moral courage in all academic and personal matters.
Students commit to truthful communication, authentic work, and ethical behavior. They understand that
trust is earned through consistent, principled actions — even when no one is watching.
Responsibility and Accountability: Students take ownership of their actions, words, and decisions. They
recognize that behavior has consequences and are expected to learn from mistakes, repair harm when
appropriate, and grow through accountability. Responsibility includes meeting academic obligations,
following school rules, and honoring commitments.
Academic Honesty and Effort: Students commit to honest academic work free from cheating, plagiarism,
misuse of technology, or misrepresentation. They apply sustained effort, embrace challenges, and take pride
in their growth. Learning is both a privilege and a responsibility.
Self-Discipline and Personal Growth: Students strive for perseverance, emotional regulation, and maturity.
They manage frustration constructively, set high personal standards, and approach challenges with
resilience. Growth comes through effort, reflection, and determination.
Citizenship and Service: Students are members of a broader community and are encouraged to contribute
positively to it. Good citizenship includes cooperation, leadership, stewardship of the environment,
responsible use of resources, and service to others. Students represent Carden Conejo with pride on and off
campus.
Safety and Well-Being: Students are expected to act in ways that promote physical, emotional, and
psychological safety. Bullying, harassment, intimidation, threats, exclusion, unsafe behavior, or harmful
digital conduct are inconsistent with Carden Conejo values and will not be tolerated.
Students are encouraged to seek help from trusted adults when they feel unsafe or observe behavior that
threatens the well-being of others.
Partnership with Families and Faculty: Education is a partnership among students, families, and faculty.
Students respect faculty authority, adhere to school policies, and contribute to a collaborative learning
environment grounded in shared values and mutual trust.
Substance-Free and Responsible Choices: Students understand that alcohol, drugs, vaping, and other
prohibited substances are harmful and inconsistent with the standards of our School community. They are
expected to make responsible choices that support health, safety, and personal integrity.
