Academic Expectations, Standards, & Integrity
Carden Conejo School maintains high academic standards rooted in discipline, intellectual rigor, and
character development. Students are expected to demonstrate consistent effort, preparation, and
engagement in all coursework. Academic success at Carden Conejo School requires completion of
assignments in a timely and thorough manner, active participation in classroom instruction, respect for the
learning environment of others, independent effort, and intellectual honesty, and the appropriate
organization of study habits.
Students are responsible for tracking assignments, meeting deadlines, and seeking clarification when
needed. Faculty provide guidance and support; however, responsibility for academic follow-through
ultimately rests with the student. Failure to meet academic standards may result in:
Required Academic Support sessions
Mandatory tutoring at the family’s expense
Academic probation
Restricted participation in extracurricular activities
Required parent conferences
Review of continued enrollment
Academic Integrity
Integrity is foundational to scholarship. Academic dishonesty undermines the trust upon which our
community is built and is taken seriously at all grade levels in developmentally appropriate ways. Academic
dishonesty includes, but is not limited to:
Copying another student’s work
Allowing one’s work to be copied
Plagiarism in any form
Submitting work completed by another individual
Unauthorized collaboration
Use of unauthorized notes or materials during assessments
Falsifying research or data
Misrepresentation of sources
Misuse of artificial intelligence or digital tools to generate work presented as one’s own
The misuse of AI tools—including submitting AI-generated content without explicit teacher authorization—
constitutes academic dishonesty. Consequences for academic dishonesty may include a grade of zero on
the assignment or assessment, required resubmission with penalty, parent notification, academic probation,
suspension, and dismissal in cases of repeated or severe violations. The severity of consequences will
reflect the age of the student, intent, and pattern of behavior.
Academic Progress & Retention
The School does not guarantee academic advancement solely based on attendance or completion of a
school year. Promotion to the next grade level requires demonstration of satisfactory academic progress and
developmental readiness. If a student consistently fails to meet grade-level expectations despite
intervention, the School may recommend retention, academic probation, a change in educational placement,
and non-renewal of enrollment. The Head of School retains final authority regarding promotion, retention,
and continued enrollment.
Homework & Study Expectations
Homework reinforces mastery and independent responsibility. Students are expected to complete
homework assignments carefully and submit them on time. Repeated failure to complete homework may
result in academic consequences and parent conferences. Parents are encouraged to support time
management and organizational skills but should not complete or substantially alter student work.
