Athletic Conduct
Carden Conejo School believes athletics are an extension of the classroom and an important part of
developing character, discipline, leadership, teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. Participation in
athletics is a privilege that carries responsibilities for students, parents, coaches, and spectators. We are
committed to fostering a competitive yet respectful environment where student well-being and character
development are always prioritized over winning. To promote positive sportsmanship and clear
communication among players, parents, and coaches, the following Parent Code of Conduct applies to all
athletic events, practices, and school-sponsored competitions.
Parent Code of Conduct
Parents/guardians of a student-athlete at Carden Conejo School agree to:
Encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, spectators,
and officials at games, practices, and other sporting events.
Place the emotional and physical well-being of my child above any personal desire to win.
Refrain from the use of inappropriate or disrespectful language at all school athletic events.
Encourage my child to play by the rules and to respect the rights of other players, coaches, fans, and
officials.
Accept all decisions of officials. Booing, heckling, or arguing with officials is not permitted.
Absolutely refrain from confronting officials during or after a game regarding the outcome or specific
calls.
Encourage those around me to display positive and respectful sportsmanship at all times.
Refrain from blaming officials, coaches, or participants for the outcome of a contest and leave each event
with a positive attitude.
Communication with Coaches
When a concern arises:
Contact my child’s coach by phone or email solely to request a meeting time. No additional issues will be
discussed in this initial communication.
Wait at least 24 hours after a contest before reaching out to the coach.
Parent and child must attend a scheduled meeting
Understand that playing time, team position, and concerns regarding other players or parents will not be
discussed.
The coach will maintain a written record of the meeting, including any mutually agreed-upon resolutions. All
parties present will sign the record. This documentation will serve as the basis for any further discussions
regarding the same matter.
Spectator & Guest Responsibility
Parents are responsible for the conduct of any guests they bring to athletic events and must ensure all
guests comply with school expectations and conduct themselves appropriately. Behavioral expectations and
consequences are further detailed in this Parent Handbook. It is the responsibility of parents, spectators,
and guests to know and follow all school policies.
Consequences for Violations
Failure to adhere to this Code of Conduct may result in:
Immediate removal from an athletic event.
Suspension from attending future contests.
If a parent is ejected from a contest, that parent will be prohibited from attending the next two contests
in which his/her child participates.
A second ejection may result in more severe consequences, including suspension or permanent ban from
attending athletic events.
