Special Events, Celebrations, & School Gatherings
Carden Conejo School values the role that celebrations and special events play in building community and
strengthening relationships among students and families. At the same time, all school-sponsored events
must align with the School’s educational mission, safety standards, and culture of inclusivity. Special events
are extensions of the school day and remain subject to all School policies, including behavioral expectations,
supervision standards, and security procedures. The School reserves the right to determine the structure,
content, supervision, and appropriateness of any school-based celebration or gathering.
Classroom Celebrations
Classroom celebrations are designed to be simple, age-appropriate, and consistent with the School’s
educational environment. Celebrations should enhance community spirit and joy between parents and
students. All classroom celebrations must be coordinated through the classroom teacher and, where
applicable, designated Room Parents. Parents may not independently plan, alter, or expand classroom
celebrations without prior teacher approval. To preserve equity among families and maintain a consistent
school culture:
Celebrations should remain modest in scale.
Outside entertainment vendors are not permitted.
Restaurant catering, elaborate décor, large displays, or party favors of significant monetary value are not
appropriate.
The School reserves the right to modify or limit celebration activities if they are deemed excessive,
disruptive, or inconsistent with school standards.
Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays are meaningful milestones, and we strive to acknowledge them in ways that are joyful yet
balanced and respectful of the learning environment. Students often receive a birthday hat or button and
will have their name announced on the loud speaker. Birthday recognitions during the school day must
remain simple and inclusive. Restaurant food, homemade items, and specialty catering are not permitted
unless specifically authorized by administration. Non-edible alternatives such as books donated to the
classroom, pencils, or small tokens are encouraged. Birthday celebrations should not involve elaborate
decorations, balloons, signage, or large-scale deliveries to classrooms. Gifts may not be distributed to
individual students during the school day. The School may limit or decline birthday recognition if it conflicts
with classroom priorities, safety concerns, or school policy.
Distribution of Private Party Invitations
Carden Conejo School is committed to fostering a culture of inclusion and emotional well-being. To minimize
social exclusion and protect students from unnecessary discomfort, private party invitations may only be
distributed on campus if all students in the grade level are invited. If a celebration is limited to a smaller
group, invitations must be distributed outside of school grounds and outside of school communication
channels. Students should not discuss private gatherings during instructional time or in ways that exclude
peers. The School reserves the right to intervene if social exclusion behaviors disrupt the emotional climate
of the classroom.
Field Trips & Off-Campus Events
Field trips and off-campus learning experiences are considered extensions of the educational program and
are privileges, not rights. Participation is contingent upon appropriate behavior, academic standing, and
compliance with school policies. Students who demonstrate unsafe behavior, repeated disciplinary concerns,
or significant academic probation may be restricted from participation at the discretion of the
Administration. Parents must complete all required permission forms and medical documentation prior to
participation. Verbal consent is insufficient. Students are expected to uphold the highest standards of
conduct while representing the School off campus. Inappropriate behavior during a field trip may result in
immediate removal from the activity, suspension from future trips, or further disciplinary consequences. The
School reserves the right to cancel, modify, or restrict participation in any off-campus event if safety
concerns arise.
