Campus Safety & Surveillance
The safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors is a top operational priority at Carden
Conejo School. In support of this commitment, the School maintains video surveillance in designated
common areas of campus, including hallways, playgrounds, entrances, exterior perimeters, and shared
community spaces. Surveillance is not conducted in bathrooms, locker rooms, or any location where
individuals have a reasonable expectation of privacy. The purpose of surveillance is to enhance campus
safety, support supervision, assist in the investigation of incidents, and protect the well-being of all
members of the School community. Recordings are reviewed by the Administration when necessary in
connection with student conduct concerns, safety issues, property damage, policy violations, or other
administrative matters.
All surveillance recordings are the sole property of the School and are maintained as part of the School’s
security infrastructure. To protect the privacy rights of all individuals captured in such recordings,
surveillance footage is not released, shared, or made available for viewing by parents, students, or third
parties except as required by law or pursuant to valid legal process. Surveillance recordings are not
considered part of a student’s academic record and are not subject to general parental inspection. The
School’s review of footage and any conclusions drawn from that review are handled internally and in
accordance with School policy. The School reserves sole discretion in determining when surveillance
footage is reviewed, how it is used, and what information, if any, may appropriately be communicated
following an investigation. By enrolling at Carden Conejo School, families acknowledge and consent to the
use of campus surveillance systems for safety and security purposes.
To protect the privacy of students and staff, parents and students may not audio or video record private
meetings or interactions involving School personnel or other students without prior written permission from
the School. Unauthorized recording may result in disciplinary action or termination of enrollment.
Student Privacy & Confidentiality
Carden Conejo School is firmly committed to protecting the privacy, dignity, and confidentiality of all
students and families. A child’s academic records, disciplinary history, health information, and personal
circumstances are treated as confidential and are handled with discretion and professionalism.
When incidents involving student conduct, safety, or peer interactions occur, the School conducts a careful
review of the facts, speaks with appropriate individuals, and takes action consistent with School policy and
the developmental needs of the students involved. However, in order to protect the privacy rights of all
children, the School cannot disclose specific disciplinary measures, investigative details, witness
statements, security footage, or any confidential information relating to other students.
Parents will receive information pertaining to their own child. The School will not share information about
another student’s behavior, consequences, family situation, or educational record. This standard applies
consistently in all situations and is not subject to case-by-case negotiation.
The School’s inability to disclose details regarding other students does not indicate that appropriate action
has not been taken. It reflects the School’s legal and ethical obligation to safeguard the confidentiality of
every child entrusted to our care.
Carden Conejo expects families to respect the privacy of other students and to refrain from speculation,
public discussion, or social media commentary regarding student matters. Protecting confidentiality
preserves the integrity of our community and ensures that all students are treated with fairness and dignity.
The Administration retains sole discretion in determining what information may appropriately be shared and
how matters are addressed internally.
