Authorized Pickup & Custody Policy
For the safety of every child, students will only be released to individuals designated on the student’s
Authorized Pick-Up Form. This form must be completed and updated annually. The School reserves the right
to request government-issued identification before releasing any student.
If custody restrictions exist, the School must be provided with a current, certified court order. In the absence
of a legal document, the School will presume that both parents have equal rights to access and pick up the
child.
If an unauthorized individual attempts to remove a student from campus, the School will deny release and
immediately contact the parent or guardian. If circumstances warrant, law enforcement may be contacted.
If an authorized individual appears impaired or unable to safely supervise the child, the School reserves the
right to refuse release of the student and may contact an alternate emergency contact or appropriate
authorities. The School’s responsibility is to act in the best interest of the child’s safety at all times.
Visitor & Chaperone Screening Policy
To ensure the continued safety of our students, Carden Conejo School requires that all overnight field trip
chaperones complete the California LiveScan fingerprinting process and receive clearance through the
Department of Justice prior to supervising students. In addition, any parent or visitor who wishes to proceed
beyond the front office during the school day must present a valid government-issued ID, which will be scanned
through our visitor management system to conduct an instant background screening. Visitors may not access
classrooms, playgrounds, or other student areas without proper clearance and a visitor badge. These
procedures are preventative measures designed to uphold the highest standards of campus safety and protect
every child in our care.
Attendance & Absenses
Consistent attendance is essential to academic growth, social development, and classroom continuity.
Parents are expected to schedule appointments, vacations, and personal travel outside of the academic
calendar whenever possible. Absences are considered excused only for illness, religious observance, or
administrative approval. Family vacations taken during school days are strongly discouraged and may not be
considered excused. If a student arrives after 11:30am or departs before 11:30am, the student may be marked
absent for the day. Excessive absences or chronic tardiness may result in academic probation, required
conferences, or review of continued enrollment. Students are responsible for completing missed work within
a reasonable timeframe determined by the teacher.
Illnesses, Health, Medication
Students who exhibit signs of contagious illness must remain at home. A student must be fever-free for 24
hours without medication before returning to school. Students experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, or other
communicable symptoms must remain home until symptom-free for 24 hours.
Prescription medications must be delivered to the office by a parent in original packaging with clear
physician instructions. Over-the-counter medications must also be delivered by a parent and accompanied by
written authorization. Students may not carry medication unless legally required for emergency health
conditions and documented through official medical forms.
The School relies on parents to disclose all medical, psychological, or behavioral conditions that may affect a
child’s health or safety. Failure to disclose relevant medical information may compromise student safety and
may impact continued enrollment.
