History
History at Carden Conejo School inspires students to see the past as a living guide to the present.
Each year expands their worldview, moving chronologically from ancient civilizations to the modern
era and the global stage. Through storytelling, discussion, and experiential projects, students
cultivate historical empathy, critical thinking, and a deep respect for humanity’s shared story. Using
rich primary sources, debates, and creative research, they learn not just what happened, but why it
matters today. Our Middle School program blends traditional scholarship with innovative tools to
make history come alive through print, digital, and interactive learning experiences. Students engage
with a variety of resources, including inquiry journals, SmartBook® adaptive learning, and an evergrowing Living Library™ featuring hundreds of primary and secondary sources such as letters,
photographs, and speeches. Guided by compelling and guiding questions, lessons invite students to
connect the past to the present, explore history through firsthand perspectives, and take informed
action through creative projects like podcasts, debates, and civic outreach empowering them to
become articulate, thoughtful, and engaged citizens.
