COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
6th Grade: Ancient Civilizations & Anthropology
Students explore the origins of human societies through the study of ancient civilizations in
Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece, Rome, India, China, and early Mesoamerica. Through the lens of
anthropology and archaeology, they examine how geography, religion, and innovation shaped daily
life and government. Lessons emphasize storytelling, mythology, philosophy, and early systems of
law and trade. Students engage in hands-on projects, such as artifact analysis, map studies, and
cultural simulations that connect the ancient world to modern civilization and critical thinking about
humanity’s shared past.
7th Grade: Medieval & Early Modern Times
This course bridges the ancient and modern worlds through an exploration of global history from
the Middle Ages to the Enlightenment. Students study the rise and fall of empires, feudal systems,
global trade, and cultural movements such as the Renaissance and Scientific Revolution. They trace
the development of art, architecture, and political thought that influenced today’s civic institutions.
Using primary sources, historical literature, and guided research, students learn to identify causeand-effect relationships in history, craft persuasive essays, and draw meaningful parallels between
historical revolutions and contemporary society.
8th Grade: U.S. History
Eighth Graders study the founding and evolution of the United States from the colonial era through
modern times. Topics include the Constitution, branches of government, civil rights movements, and
America’s role in global affairs. Students explore how democracy, leadership, and citizenship have
evolved across generations. The year culminates in participation in Model United Nations, where
students research world issues, represent nations, and practice diplomacy, negotiation, and public
speaking. Through this immersive experience, they strengthen their analytical, collaborative, and
persuasive writing skills while gaining a deeper appreciation for civic engagement and global
responsibility.
