EcoDesign Lab
EcoDesign Lab is an innovative, project-based elective where students explore the intersection of
environmental science, design thinking, and sustainable innovation. Through hands-on projects,
students investigate real-world environmental challenges and learn how thoughtful design can create
positive impact. The course introduces concepts such as renewable resources, ecological systems,
sustainable materials, and responsible land use while fostering creativity, problem-solving, and
collaboration. Learning is enriched through immersive field trip experiences. A defining feature of
EcoDesign Lab is the opportunity for students to become true designers and builders of their
environment. Working collaboratively, students will imagine, plan, and bring to life a living garden space
on the Carden campus, from conceptual sketches and plant selection to soil preparation, construction,
and long-term care. This hands-on project allows students to apply principles of sustainability,
landscape design, and environmental science in a real-world setting while cultivating responsibility,
creativity, and pride in their school community. The garden becomes both a learning laboratory and a
lasting contribution, reflecting students’ vision, innovation, and commitment to creating a more
beautiful and sustainable world.
Applied STEM
Applied STEM is a hands-on, project-based course that introduces students to the exciting world of
robotics, coding, and game design. Through interactive challenges and real-world problem solving,
students learn how to design, build, and program robotic systems, develop foundational coding skills,
and create original digital games that integrate logic, creativity, and strategy. The course emphasizes
critical thinking, collaboration, and innovation while strengthening mathematical reasoning and
computational thinking. By transforming ideas into working models and interactive experiences,
students gain confidence as creators, engineers, and problem-solvers — preparing them for advanced
STEM study and the rapidly evolving technological world.
Ceramics
This hands-on art course introduces students to the fundamentals of ceramics and three-dimensional
design. Students explore clay as a medium through wheel work, hand-building techniques, and
sculptural processes while learning about form, texture, balance, and function. Through creative
projects and guided experimentation, students develop fine motor skills, spatial reasoning, patience,
and artistic confidence. The course encourages creative risk-taking and self-expression while fostering
focus, craftsmanship, and pride in one’s work. By working with both traditional methods and
contemporary design concepts, students gain a deeper appreciation for art as a powerful form of
communication and personal expression.
